I’d buy into that if people referred to him as Evan Peters. I never see that. I never see “I really like Evan Peters as Tate” I see all this stuff specifically about Tate, and that’s what makes me feel awkward.
They don’t talk about the performance, they don’t talk about the actor at all… just Tate. I’ve seen “why isn’t Tate real?” and the like. I can understand when some one likes a psychopathic performance like I said to one other response, Hannibal Lecter.
Hannibal Lecter is a charismatic character and has a lot of charm but is also disgusting in how he acts. But there’s a separation between the character and the actor and people applaud Anthony Hopkins for his portrayal of the character. I don’t see the separation with Tate… just a desire to be with that psychopath.
As for the hybristophilia, that could be it, there is a factor of girls liking some one who’s dangerous which also accounts for the love girls on Tumblr seem to have for characters like Loki in Thor and more…
It just seems that Tumblr is this breeding ground for liking characters who are dangerous, murdering psychopaths and who fandoms all to themselves outside of their series or films. That’s odd to me.

You make very valid points about Tate. I believe most fangirls love Evan Peters & the character knowing he's fictional, just like liking Freddy Kruger or whatnot who is obviously bad but it's fictional & the character is fun/intriguing/etc. As far as the girls who would actually love Tate if he were real (& there a bunch), it's most likely people who have different values or perhaps have hybristophilia. The allure of someone violent but soft with you is really enticing to some girls.
