Why Do Women Like Tate From American Horror Story?
I simply don’t understand the attraction that so many women that I know have towards the character of Tate on American Horror Story. For those of you not familiar with the character you should be warned that there are spoilers within so read at your own risk.
Now Tate is a ghost who died after brutally killing students in a school shooting and then is killed by cops after trying to pull a gun on them. They try to humanize this character, make him something special through the entire show, and it’s the one thing that I absolutely HATED about the series. Tate is the love interest for the main young female lead. Why? Because they’re both outcasts? Ok fine… but Tate is a murderer. There’s nothing redeeming about him.
I think writers should be allowed to make and create any kind of character they want, but they should also be aware of how this makes the world perceive them. Trying to turn Tate into a sympathetic character, turn him into a wounded and misunderstood person is dangerous for a lot of reasons. Putting that make up on him, making him look cool as he roams his school hallways gunning down people is a dangerous idea and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
But why the attraction? Nobody says “oh Evan Peters is great and so hot” they talk about TATE, the character he played. To be fair, the entire show is about broken individuals with a lot of things wrong with them. Not a single character on the show has a redeeming quality about them. They’re all horribly disgusting and I think that’s part of it. The horror of American Horror Story comes long before the supernatural elements are even introduced. Whether it’s the husband cheating, the wife almost killing him, the daughter committing suicide or Tate shooting up the school, there’s something wrong with each and every character and they’re all things that have nothing to do with ghosts, or mystical entities or anything like that. It’s all things Americans deal with. That’s something I liked about the show.
But that doesn’t mean I’d ever want to be with one of the characters or find them attractive or as some one I want to know. So why are women so drawn to Tate? IF anyone can answer this for me, I’d very much like to know your answers.
