Posting every Disney film made, isn’t creating a library…
Recently stumbled onto a post on Tumblr that was every Disney animated movie ready for streaming, downloading or torrenting. This isn’t a library. This isn’t a public service you’re creating. This is taking something that doesn’t belong to you, and spreading it among the masses.
A library is a building that houses books, music, magazines, movies and more that are paid for by the public, by tax payers or that are donated to the institution. You may have something like a “personal library” that is your own collection and guess what! You may want to loan those movies out to people and that’s your right because you’re handing over that copy and it may or may not be returned to you. That’s not what you’re doing though. Posting every single Disney film online is theft. If Disney wants to post all their movies or wanted them all to be posted then that would happen. But that’s not how a business works.
There’s a young generation that feels entitled to everything simply because it’s there. It started with Napster and now it’s moved onto torrenting and for some reason people can’t seem to wrap their head around the idea that these films don’t belong to them. They’re not entitled to them at all.
I’ve gotten in this argument before and some one made the point that they wanted to watch a film and it simply wasn’t available to them because it was some weird terrible indie film. Ok great. That defense (while not something I can agree with) exists, this is not that. This is DISNEY. The largest entertainment company on the planet. They own Marvel comics, that’s a pretty big deal. They made the 3rd highest grossing film of all time.
All of these movies are available to rent at your local video store and if they’re not, they’re on itunes, or amazon on demand or something simple and cheap and instant.
I’m tired of seeing these things come up in my feed and if they do, from now on I’ll unfollow. Sorry but there are a million ways to get your movies cheap and legally so do it.
