Shisha Review: Al Fakher - Watermelon.
I smoke hookah on a nearly daily basis. It helps me wind down at the end of the night. It’s a way for me to relax with my friends and it’s a great communal activity. Sharing the smoke, enjoying the flavors and hookahs, at least I’ve found, loosen people up and start great conversations. Because of that I want to discuss some of the things I’ve found while smoking and talk about some of the flavors that I smoke.
Al Fakher is by far my favorite shisha brand (shisha short hand for the tobacco that we use). Watermelon is one of, if not my all time favorite fruit. When I heard that Al Fakher made a watermelon shisha I wanted to try it a lot. I don’t know what it is about this flavor, but it is just not working for me.
At first the scent of Watermelon was strong when we opened up the large 250g package, but since then the flavor and scent of Watermelon has diminished and what’s left while not entirely unpleasant doesn’t feel like watermelon at all. Maybe it’s hard to naturally take those flavors and work them into a molasses based tobacco, but either way, it’s starting to feel like it’s something else.
We use a Phunnel style bowl here and with two to three coals it can be a rather clean and pleasant smoke. There are some large stems in the package but picking them out is pretty easy. There’s also a lot of drippings and juices so the flavors are generally pretty strong.
Something else that I’ve noticed while smoking, especially in large quantities is that keeping hydrated is important. Certain drinks simply go better with certain shishas. For this one I recommend water or a sweet tea. It really works well. I prefer Arnold Palmer with it’s lemonade. It just tastes great and heightens the taste of the smoke. As far as snacks, I’d recommend something sweet, but not candy. Apple slices or oranges would be absolutely wonderful.
Over all it’s a good buy, but may turn off some first time smokers.
